Do you remember comedian Bill Engvall’s stand-up bit that always ended with the phrase, Here’s your sign? Well, the sign that he readily hands to people, isn’t quite the sign I’m talking about today. What I’m talking about are signs from the universe that point you toward your calling. Your calling could be a new career, a new relationship, or anything else that is meant to bring fulfillment or joy. Anything that allows you to live free.
It’s easy to ignore our signs. It happens to the most intuitive of us. It happened to me over the course of the past couple months. I lost focus and started to get overwhelmed by what I thought were sure signs that I chose the wrong path.
First, I lost some subscribers to my newsletter. By some, I don’t mean hundreds. Really it was just a handful, but it was enough people leaving that I thought, Oh my gosh! What did I do wrong? What did I say that wanted to make people leave? Next, I noticed sales slowed on my latest book and a scheduled meet and greet wasn’t getting the publicity I expected. In fact, I was considering not going to the event at all.
A combination of all these things had me questioning everything I was doing. My doubts left me in a vulnerable state where I felt like walking away from what I worked hard to build over these past few years.
How crazy of a thought was that? Why would I walk away from all the success I accumulated just because a few things weren’t going exactly right?
But then some things went very right . . .
During my yoga practice, I asked for a sign that I was moving in the right direction. That I shouldn’t give everything up and go back to a 9-5 job.
Funny how the universe works because here’s what happened throughout the days that followed this intention:
- More lovely humans like yourself began subscribing to this newsletter again.
- Sales didn’t magically “glow up”, but I did have an idea – one I’d never thought of before – for reaching new readers that I’m in the process of actively pursuing.
- At my meet and greet, I didn’t get the turnout I expected. I got something better. During the last 20 minutes, when I was considering packing up early and calling it a fail, a woman I’d known from over a decade ago approached my table. She traveled out of her way to visit me because she’d seen the event on Facebook, and, in her hands, she held a copy of every book I ever published or participated in as a guest writer. She wanted the books signed and gave me the most beautiful words of encouragement and support.
I asked the universe for a sign and I was being showered with love and reassurance from so many different directions. What would have happened if I ignored these signs? I probably wouldn’t be writing this post today.
So, if you’re experiencing doubt in any area of your life, let me ask you.
Are you ignoring your signs?
As you move through this week, be extra alert. Remember that the universe truly does work in mysterious ways. Be open to opportunities that present in unconventional ways.
Do you have a story of how a sign changed your perspective? I’d love to hear it. Leave your comment below.
Have a beautiful week, thought warriors!
